Ebony, one of the India's largest chains of departmental stores, has a history of during things in style. In kwwping with this tradition, Ebony recently showcased their new summer collection of Ebony ETC.

Ebony ETC collection has been created by a team of professional and fashioned designer along the lines of the latest in European fashion. Manufactured in a state-of-the-art factory in Noida, under strict QC guide-lines, all clothes adhere to international stitching specification. The cotton range has used 100 % cotton fabrics, imported as well as Indian. An assembly line production facility combined with an in- house fabric checking machine ensures a supply of garments that meet world class quality standards.

The Ebony ETC , brand offer both formal and casual wear for men, women and kids.

The men's formal wear includes an entire range of formal and semi- formal shirts priced Rs 295 onwards, as well as entire range of daily wear cotton trousers priced Rs 495 onwards. EBONY ELITE CULB TOUCHES THE 25,000 MARK IN PUNJAB.

Ebony's loyalty program has achieved a milestone by increasingly the member based from 7500 in 2000 to 25000 in 2001-2.

Conceived to reward the regular customers, Ebony started its royalty program three years back. Customers are offered membership of the club, free of cost, based on purchased patterns.

Ebony Elite Club offers its member accumulated bonus points against shopping. These are redeemable through special promotional schemes at the Ebony stores at local restaurants, clubs and cinema halls which Ebony has a tie-up. Special customers from among the Elite club members are issued the Ebony Gold Card that offers them many additional privileges.
A kid club has also been started that offers bonus points to children against their purchase and entitles them to avail of the discounts at the various food and entertainment joints in the city where Ebony is present.

Members are kept informed about new products and promotional scheme at the stores through specially designed mailers.


A special scheme I planned for them very regularly, which ranges from discounts and previews to forthcoming sales, to invitations for events. As preferred customers, Ebony also initiates regular interaction with them to receive their feedback on products and services, which are then acted upon.

OUR CORRESPONDENT CAUGHT UP WITH HIM TO DISCUSS ABOUT A THE STORE'S ACHIEVMENT IN THE YEARS GONE BY…AS WELL AS PLANS FOR THE FUTURE.

Yet another year gone by. How does it feel?
It is obviously a joyous occasion for all of us at Ebony. Our baby is growing older. And just like any parent, we are also happy and excited about the future.

So how are you celebrating this baby's birthday?
Two days back, we started a road show that had 10 motorbikes and a decorated van going around the entire city distributing invitation with special offers. The idea was to create an excitement around the anniversary. It was also to get everyone involved enough to come to the store today for the grand anniversary celebrations.

Today, there will be the ceremonial cake-cutting in the presence of our loyal customers and special guest Mr. Neckchand, a visionary who was responsible for the creation of the rock garden. A number of promotional schemes has been lined up for customers to thank them for their overwhelming patronage.

Coming back to Ebony, how has the store fared in the last one year?
Last year was a year of consolidation… a year that brought us even closure to our customers. Our walk-ins have continued to increase at a steady 10%. And this has resulted in increase in sales by 18%. We have, according to me, succeeded in understanding the pulse of our customer and have delivered consistently on expectations. It is no wonder that the last year saw more than 350000 customers walk in through the doors on Ebony store in Chandighar!

What value-add benefits have you offered to your customers?
Well, to begin with, the store is now open 365 days a year…with extended shopping hours… Now they can come to us everyday, any day of the week…all through the year.

What about products? Has there been any value addition in terms of merchandise stocked?
Ebony, as a corporate, is entering into a number of alliances, wherein we are offering space to other retailers to retail their product from within the Ebony's enhanced ambience. This shop in shop concept has been successful internationally. And helps to bring the best of brands under one roof for the customers. This is a definite value addition for people who shop with us its it helps to extent the range of product available.

In our Chandighar store, we already have such tie-ups. With Natalia for formal women apparels. Cossets for coffee. Over the next week, we intent to bring more such tie ups like Planet M…all of them operating from within Ebony.

What does Ebony stand for…as a brand?

What are your plans for future?
With our existent stores in Chandighar, Ludhiana and Jalandhar, we believe we have already made a special place for ourselves in the heart of North Indian Customers. The next couples of years will see us add more Ebony stores in Amritsar, Pharwara, Pathankot and Karnal. We are currently the largest retail chains in North India and we are confident that we will not lose this leadership position ever.
